Ranveer Singh starrer Cirkus’ digital rights acquired by Netflix; ZEE Network acquires satellite rights June 28, 2021 at 06:10PM

After the success of Simmba that was released in 2018, director-actor duo Rohit Shetty and Ranveer Singh joined hands for the period comedy titled Cirkus. The film went on floors in November 2020 and also stars Pooja Hegde, Jacqueline Fernandez, Varun Sharma, and Johny Lever in prominent roles.

Bollywood Hungama had earlier reported that the makers are planning to release the film in theatres on December 31, 2021. While the makers are yet to officially announce the release date, the digital rights of the film have been acquired by the streaming giant Netflix. While the satellite rights have been acquired by Zee Network, the theatrical rights have been acquired by Reliance Entertainment.

The film is based on the classic play, The Comedy of Errors, which inspired the Gulzar cult comedy, Angoor and is set in the 1960s’.Ranveer Singh will be starring in a double role as the story is about a pair of identical twins who are separated at birth. Both of his characters will have attendants played by Varun Sharma. The four of them will eventually cross paths leading it to a classic case of mistaken identity and confusion.

The movie is produced by Reliance Entertainment and T-Series along with Rohit Shetty Picturez.

Tandav controversy: Supreme Court refuses to grant protection from arrest to makers; says freedom of speech is not absolute January 27, 2021 at 04:37PM

On Wednesday while hearing pleas seeking stay on FIRs against actors and producers of the web series Tandav , the Supreme Court said that freedom of speech is not absolute. A bench headed by Ashok Bhushan said that the petitioners should go to the high courts to seek quashing of these cases. The court also refused to grant protection from arrest to the makers of Tandav against whom FIRs have been filed. The case was heard by a bench of justices Ashok Bhushan, RS Reddy and MR Shah. Senior advocates Fali S Nariman, Mukul Rohatgi and Siddharth Luthra cited the recent judgement of the top court in Arnab Goswami's case during the hearing. "Is this way liberty should be protected in the country and FIRs are being filed across the country," Luthra said adding that the director of the web series, Ali Abbas Zafar, is being harassed. Paresh Rawal replaces Rishi Kapoor and resumes shoot for Sharmaji Namkeen June 30, 2021 at 04:06PM

As the Maharashtra government announced some ease in lockdown restrictions, many films have resumed their shoots. Late actor Rishi Kapoor's last film Sharmaji Namkeen has also gone on floors. Rishi played the central character in the movie and passed away on April 30, last year. His remaining portions of the film were taken over by veteran actor Paresh Rawal. Paresh Rawal started shooting for the remaining portions in March this year. However, with the second wave of the novel coronavirus, the shoot came to a halt again. According to a daily, Paresh Rawal has resumed the shoot for an important sequence at a school in Goregaon, Mumbai which also features Juhi Chawla and Satish Kaushik.
