Shoojit Sircar open to releasing Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana starrer Gulabo Sitabo on digital platform April 28, 2020 at 03:11PM

With the lockdown extended till May 3 and the possibility of extension is more due to rapid rise in Coronavirus cases, the hope to return back to normal lives is unlikely at this point. This has tremendously affected the showbiz as films have been postponed and theatres are shut down. There have been several speculations of movies going straight to digital platforms. Shoojit Sircar doesn't mind this option though.

Shoojit Sircar open to releasing Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana starrer Gulabo Sitabo on digital platform

The filmmaker recently spoke to a daily about his film Gulabo Sitabo starring Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana in the leading roles. The director said that as a filmmaker, he would like his film to open on a big screen but the situation is something that no one has ever witnessed. He said that if need be, he is open to digital release but the decision will be taken after May 3.

Gulabo Sitabo was scheduled for April 17, 2020 release.

But, he isn't sure about his next film Sardar Udham Singh starring Vicky Kaushal. Since the film is set for a January 2021 release, he said that they are currently not thinking about it yet. He said that he'd like this film to be seen on the big screen. Shoojit Sircar further said that he lived with this dream for so long that he had tears in his eyes when they were filming at Jallianwala Bagh.

Tandav controversy: Supreme Court refuses to grant protection from arrest to makers; says freedom of speech is not absolute January 27, 2021 at 04:37PM

On Wednesday while hearing pleas seeking stay on FIRs against actors and producers of the web series Tandav , the Supreme Court said that freedom of speech is not absolute. A bench headed by Ashok Bhushan said that the petitioners should go to the high courts to seek quashing of these cases. The court also refused to grant protection from arrest to the makers of Tandav against whom FIRs have been filed. The case was heard by a bench of justices Ashok Bhushan, RS Reddy and MR Shah. Senior advocates Fali S Nariman, Mukul Rohatgi and Siddharth Luthra cited the recent judgement of the top court in Arnab Goswami's case during the hearing. "Is this way liberty should be protected in the country and FIRs are being filed across the country," Luthra said adding that the director of the web series, Ali Abbas Zafar, is being harassed. Paresh Rawal replaces Rishi Kapoor and resumes shoot for Sharmaji Namkeen June 30, 2021 at 04:06PM

As the Maharashtra government announced some ease in lockdown restrictions, many films have resumed their shoots. Late actor Rishi Kapoor's last film Sharmaji Namkeen has also gone on floors. Rishi played the central character in the movie and passed away on April 30, last year. His remaining portions of the film were taken over by veteran actor Paresh Rawal. Paresh Rawal started shooting for the remaining portions in March this year. However, with the second wave of the novel coronavirus, the shoot came to a halt again. According to a daily, Paresh Rawal has resumed the shoot for an important sequence at a school in Goregaon, Mumbai which also features Juhi Chawla and Satish Kaushik. The team along with Paresh Rawal will shoot for a week-long schedule, after which the movie will wrap up and go for the post-production process.
