On his birthday, Varun Dhawan donates towards daily wage labourers of the film industry April 24, 2020 at 08:38PM

Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan celebrated his birthday today. On this occasion, the actor made a contribution to the Federation of Western Indian Cine Employees (FWICE). Ashoke Pandit on behalf of FWICE thanked Varun for the same.

Ashoke Pandit who is the president of Indian Film and TV directors Association took to Twitter to thank Varun Dhawan for his contribution. Sharing the video he wrote, "@fwice_mum  thanks @Varun_dvn for donating towards the daily wage workers of the entertainment industry. Nearly 5 lakh cine workers, belonging to 32 crafts, wish him a very Happy Birthday. #HappyBirthdayVarunDhawan #FWICEFightsCorona"


Varun Dhawan had earlier contributed Rs. 55 lakhs to the PM CARES Fund and Maharashtra Chief Minister's Relief Fund. The actor has been using his social media handle to spread awareness about the novel coronavirus. 

The daily wage labourers are one of the worst-hit by the nationwide lockdown as they have gone out of work. Several celebrities from the film fraternity including Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn and Rohit Shetty have made generous contributions towards FWICE.

Tandav controversy: Supreme Court refuses to grant protection from arrest to makers; says freedom of speech is not absolute January 27, 2021 at 04:37PM

On Wednesday while hearing pleas seeking stay on FIRs against actors and producers of the web series Tandav , the Supreme Court said that freedom of speech is not absolute. A bench headed by Ashok Bhushan said that the petitioners should go to the high courts to seek quashing of these cases. The court also refused to grant protection from arrest to the makers of Tandav against whom FIRs have been filed. The case was heard by a bench of justices Ashok Bhushan, RS Reddy and MR Shah. Senior advocates Fali S Nariman, Mukul Rohatgi and Siddharth Luthra cited the recent judgement of the top court in Arnab Goswami's case during the hearing. "Is this way liberty should be protected in the country and FIRs are being filed across the country," Luthra said adding that the director of the web series, Ali Abbas Zafar, is being harassed. Paresh Rawal replaces Rishi Kapoor and resumes shoot for Sharmaji Namkeen June 30, 2021 at 04:06PM

As the Maharashtra government announced some ease in lockdown restrictions, many films have resumed their shoots. Late actor Rishi Kapoor's last film Sharmaji Namkeen has also gone on floors. Rishi played the central character in the movie and passed away on April 30, last year. His remaining portions of the film were taken over by veteran actor Paresh Rawal. Paresh Rawal started shooting for the remaining portions in March this year. However, with the second wave of the novel coronavirus, the shoot came to a halt again. According to a daily, Paresh Rawal has resumed the shoot for an important sequence at a school in Goregaon, Mumbai which also features Juhi Chawla and Satish Kaushik. The team along with Paresh Rawal will shoot for a week-long schedule, after which the movie will wrap up and go for the post-production process.
